Wring Out The Sponge Bob!

I think most of us know what the purpose of a sponge is. It soaks up spills, wipes away scuffs, cleans dishes and so much more. We have all used a sponge at one time in our lives. Okay, now that we've established that, lets talk about people that may use you as a sponge. It could be anyone you least expect it to be. None of us like the thought of being soaked up or squeezed out like a sponge. We may not even know it is happening at first. There will always be a sponge in our lives. No matter what it is they will always be the ones to get as much out of you as they can. When we open our lives to help others, or teach something, we can expect we may run into a person that's a sponge. We will call that person a Sponge Bob.

I believe most of us work hard, and want to know we have a good environment to go to work in. Some of us get regular checks and other like us Realtors, are commission based. We only get paid on whatever the split is we have agreed upon with the company we work with and the deal we work on. The only time, it may be decided for you, is when you sell a short sale and the bank pays whatever they want. That's really the only time we aren't sure what we're getting paid. Regardless, the bottom line is, if we don't sell a house we don't make money, it's just that simple. So we must drain the sponges that are holding us back in our lives to get our jobs done and to enjoy our home lives. How do we do that?

Let's take today and take care of the Sponge Bob in your life and focus on squeezing them out. If there is someone that seems to be too demanding in your life, try to put them to the side more. Let them know you are busy at work and it's not a good time to talk or you are working with clients and you need to focus on what you are doing. That way you are not making them feel you are avoiding them. Make more time for the fun things in your life. Getting taken in by the Sponge Bob, can hold you back from making a difference in someone else's life you would like to spend more time with or hold you back from your work. Don't let them squeeze the life out of you.

Here are a few tips to help squeeze that Sponge Bob out and let them know you have a life too. Be honest with them when they start to take up too much of your time and say you've done all you can to help them. If that doesn't work you may have to be more aggressive and tell them you're just too busy to spend the extra time as you have so much going on. If you are a Realtor it protects you to send them to your Broker or Office manager especially if it's work related questions. You say to them, you don't want to be giving them any wrong information and you don't want to risk their license or yours by giving them any wrong advice. That usually sends them on their way. If it's more personal you can use, this really isn't the best time for me, as I need to take care of a client. Let them know you are much busier now and usually they will respect that. If they don't be strong and squeeze, wring and wipe them out of your life. Let them know you aren't able to help them anymore as you must focus on what you need to do to get yourself back on target. You can't make money if you aren't focused. You noticed, I didn't say to ignore them, that's the chicken way out. It's best to face your Sponge Bob's one on one.

So, take your Sponge Bob today and wring them out. Don't let them soak or squeeze you out anymore. Get and keep a new dry sponge where it will remind you not be soaked up squeezed or wiped out again. Wipe them out and be the best you can be, YOU!
