In a Blog I posted the other day called Slip Of The Tongue, I asked, what does P's and Q's mean? Personally I thought it meant minding your business. My nephew, Eric, who I know and love as E.J; sent me this excerpt taken from wisegeek.com. It really is an interesting site if you don't know about it. Thanks E.J. for sending this to me.
One of the most likely theories about “mind your P's and Q's” is related to the pints and quarts served at bars. Many bars and pubs traditionally kept track of customer tabs on a large slate board, adding up the P's and Q's at the end of the night. A smart customer would keep an eye on his or her P's and Q's, to ensure that the bartender was not fudging the numbers. Some bartenders have also theorized that bar staff may have been admonished to mind their P's and Q's, by keeping track of how many drinks they dispensed over the course of the night.- Excerpt taken from: http://www.wisegeek.com/what-are-the-origins-of-the-phrase-mind-your-ps-and-qs.htm.
It's like being educated or making yourself seem educated. My next Blog will delve more into that. Just remember to mind your P's and Q's.
