Being a Realtor at Coldwell Banker with my family I work with, has it's ups and downs. We always seem to work things out with each other to keep us together, not only as a family unit but to have respect for each other as well.
The story I am going to tell you is true, but something good has come from it. It's about the fast paced Real Estate market in 2005 that ended with a fall of prices and peoples pride. Not everyone looks out for number one, but let's face it most of us do to a certain extent. We want to make sure our tails are covered as well as our pockets. Let's take a step back to 2005 when the market was peaking and everyone wanted to make a buck. You couldn't even buy a place and rent it out to make a dollar but people were buying places like crazy.
What caused the craze? Mortgages and rates were so easy to come by, everybody wanted to get into the action. Some even bought 2 or 3 investments thinking they could flip the properties and didn't think about how it might affect them or their families. There was a major craving to be a home buyer or investment owner. Some people were even selling their own homes as everything was moving so fast. Realtors were selling homes at peaked prices that even Appraisers were keeping up with.
Now the same people that had these same wonderful ideas are in big trouble. They can't sell their investments, so now we have an influx of short sales and Reo's, that have affected the appraisal values to a spiralled downturn. Most people need a lot of help to sell their places and Realtors are ready and willing to help them. So many other Realtors have left the business that thought it was nothing to sell a house. Some had no ethics but thought they were really great. Now that things have become complicated only the ones that are experienced are left. If you are new to Real Estate and have just started you must have a big heart to help others. People know and feel the emotions of the market as we are all affected by it. It's no surprise Realtors invested and lost out in the same way. No one really knew what the outcome would be.
That's why pride has taken a back seat to many humbled people. We were all in it together and we will all get each other out of it by helping each other the best way we can. Just like a family does with respect and humility. We have found each other again. Our families are moving to a different way of life which has brought us all together in a supportive and caring way again. Let's learn from this and not forget who we really are. Compassionate and caring human beings looking out for one another. It has helped us be less prideful and more hopeful and humble. At least we have each other. Let's remember to keep it that way. Just like the picture of the Jupiter lighthouse. It lights the way, for us to find our way, together.
