What's Next?

Real Estate is a career for the strong hearted. There is no way you can be too soft hearted to make it in this business. If you are, no offense, you would be in a lot of trouble with your Buyers and Sellers. They want to know you have the guff to be strong when tough issues arise and sensitive to their needs.

Eg. on Seller: A client lost their spouse and has been living with the loss of him by herself.ever since. Every time you see her she speaks of him like he's still in the house. You listen and don't say anything unless you know them well. You might say, "I don't know how you are feeling and I truly sympathize with you. Do you have any family you can also talk to that may want to help you out? If not, how about a close friend?" Even though we are selling their house, we have to know when to be sensitive to their needs. As Realtors our best asset is listening. Usually listening to someone can help them out so much that later they might say how much you have helped them.

Eg. on Buyer: A Buyer has just moved to the area and needs something yesterday, of course. They want all the bells and whistles and a 2 car garage on a nice size lot. They want to move here in about 2 months and know there are bank foreclosures but want the best of the best. They only have up to $300,000 and want to live only in Jupiter. What do you do?

Be honest and tell them you will do a search and they may have to do a few upgrades themselves. You can utilize a few REO professionals in the office that may help you out. They have to move fast on the property and can't hesitate to make an offer if they like the house. You let them know, although we are in a slower market, they can definitely wind up in a multiple offer scenario. Also, tell them about other REO's in the area near Jupiter as they may find something they like and you don't want them to be stuck without options. Worse case is they will say no and continue on to the next person. They probably weren't that serious anyway if they don't listen to your ideas. Remember, the truth will get you through no matter what. They will appreciate it in the long run, and at best, know you are trying to really help them.
